Beards for Bucks: Razor-less for a Reason in York County

What: For the month of October, members of thirteen law enforcement agencies in York County are going “razor-less for a reason” and participating in the second annual Beards for Bucks campaign to grow beards, mustaches, and goatees to support the Children’s Advocacy Center of York County!

Why: The Children’s Advocacy Center of York County (CACYC) is a program under Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM). The CACYC is a child-friendly place that serves children and families after an allegation or concern of sexual abuse. Trained professionals provide specialized interviews, referrals to services, and support for children and families. We work together with law enforcement, the Department of Health and Human Services, the District Attorney’s office, mental health providers, medical personnel, and advocates as a collaborative team. Our goals are to reduce the re-traumatization of children, increase access to services, and hold more offenders accountable. Since opening in May 2017, we’ve served over 60 children and their families.

How: Officers depend on the generosity of the community to make a donation to support the important work of the CACYC and SARSSM for children, adults, and families in Southern Maine. Last year, Maine’s participating law enforcement raised nearly $7,000 for the CAC!

To donate visit our YouCaring page. Should you like to donate by check or money order, please make it out to SARSSM (with “CAC of York County” or “Beards for Bucks” in the memo line) and mail it to: SARSSM, P.O. Box 1371, Portland, ME 04104.
